New Requirements Planned For Vehicles Used As Taxis In Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is preparing new requirements for vehicles used in taxi services and other passenger transportation, under a government decision signed by Prime Minister Ali Asadov.

According to the document, proposals on updated rules must be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers within two months. The planned changes will cover technical specifications as well as the interior and exterior design of vehicles used for regular passenger transport, taxis and non-scheduled passenger services.

The move is tied to Article 15.5 of the law “On Road Transport,” which states that vehicles used in regular taxi and passenger transportation, as well as in irregular passenger services, must comply with standards approved by the body designated by the relevant executive authority.

Vehicles that fail to meet those standards may be denied an operating permit card. If such a card has already been issued, its legal validity may be suspended or revoked.

The decision signals a tighter regulatory approach to the appearance and technical condition of vehicles operating in Azerbaijan’s passenger transport sector, especially taxis.
