Ramiz Mehdiyev, the former head of Azerbaijan’s Presidential Administration who already faces several serious criminal charges, has been charged with accepting a bribe.
AZE.US, citing Gununsesi.info, reported that the new charge was filed under Article 311 of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code, which covers bribery. Investigators have reportedly questioned Mehdiyev in connection with the new allegation.
Mehdiyev had previously been charged under several other provisions of the Criminal Code:
- Article 278.1 – actions aimed at seizing state power and forcibly changing the constitutional order;
- Article 274 – high treason;
- Article 193-1.3.2 – laundering property obtained through criminal activity.
Baku’s Sabail District Court placed Mehdiyev under house arrest in connection with the criminal investigation conducted by Azerbaijan’s State Security Service.
The initial four-month house arrest order was subsequently extended several times. In June 2026, the court extended the measure for another five months.
Mehdiyev is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a final court judgment.
