Azerbaijani health authorities have opened an investigation after 11 children receiving inpatient treatment at a hospital in Sumgait experienced a reaction to a medication.
Specialists from the Administration of Regional Medical Divisions, known as TƏBİB, and the Health Ministry are examining the incident at the Children’s Hospital under the Sumgait Medical Center, according to Vesti Baku.
TƏBİB said samples of the medication used at the hospital had been collected for testing. The children had been hospitalized with a respiratory viral infection before the reaction occurred.
Medical staff provided immediate care to all 11 patients. Four children were discharged for outpatient treatment after their condition was assessed as satisfactory. The remaining seven continued receiving treatment in the hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.
The name of the medication and the cause of the reaction have not been disclosed. Final conclusions will be issued after the investigation and laboratory testing are completed.
