BAKU, Azerbaijan - President Ilham Aliyev and Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni discussed security and public-order cooperation during a meeting in Baku on Oct. 12.

Aliyev stressed the importance of maintaining close bilateral cooperation in security, the protection of public order and other areas, according to the Azerbaijani presidency.

The president described the Iranian delegation’s visit as a continuation of bilateral contacts and said he expected it to produce positive results. He also referred to a recent Azerbaijani delegation visit to Iran and meetings held there.

Iran Emphasizes Agency-Level Ties

Momeni thanked Aliyev for receiving him and said Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian places particular importance on strengthening relations between the two countries’ relevant agencies.

The Iranian minister also thanked Azerbaijan for humanitarian assistance provided during emergencies in Iran, including destructive earthquakes and forest fires.

No new agreement or specific joint decision was announced after the meeting. The talks instead reaffirmed the two neighbors’ intention to maintain contacts on security and public order.

The meeting was a separate development from earlier Azerbaijani-Iranian discussions on regional security and the Middle East.
