Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has sharply criticized U.S. policy in the ongoing conflict, accusing President Donald Trump of escalating the war for political reasons.

In an interview with CBS’s Face the Nation, Araghchi said Iran had not asked for a ceasefire and would continue defending itself.

“No, we never asked for a ceasefire, and we have never even asked for negotiations. We are ready to defend ourselves as long as it takes,” the Iranian foreign minister said.

Araghchi also blamed Washington for what he described as an “illegal war.”

“People are being killed only because President Trump wants to have fun,” he said, referring to comments he claims the U.S. president made about sinking ships and striking targets.

“This is a war of choice by President Trump and the United States, and we are going to continue our self-defense,” Araghchi added.

The Iranian minister also dismissed suggestions that Tehran should return to negotiations with Washington.

“We were talking with them when they decided to attack us. There is no good experience talking with Americans. We were negotiating, and they attacked us. So what is the point of going back to talks again?” he said.

Araghchi stressed that Iran considers the conflict an act of aggression and said the country is prepared to continue resisting as long as necessary.
