Azerbaijan recorded a decline in both births and marriages in the first two months of 2026, according to data released by the State Statistics Committee.

A total of 14,797 babies were registered in January and February. The birth rate fell to 8.9 per 1,000 people, down from 9.7 in the same period of 2025.

Boys accounted for 53.7% of newborns, while girls made up 46.3%. The data also showed 522 twins and 21 triplets were registered during the period.

At the same time, local registration offices recorded 5,250 marriages and 3,376 divorces.

The marriage rate dropped from 4.7 to 3.2 per 1,000 people compared with a year earlier. The divorce rate also declined, though more modestly, from 2.1 to 2.0 per 1,000.

The figures point to a weaker start to the year for Azerbaijan’s key demographic indicators, with births and marriages both falling on an annual basis.
