Four officials from Azerbaijan’s State Service for Mobilization and Conscription have been sent to pre-trial detention following an operation by the Anti-Corruption Main Department under the Prosecutor General.
According to local reports, a court ordered four months of pre-trial detention for Etibar Aliyev and Shamil Aliyev, senior officers of the Garadagh district department; Niyam Madatsoyly, deputy head of the Jabrayil department; and Araz Karimli, an officer in the mobilization preparation unit of the Saatli district department.
The arrests came after anti-corruption investigators carried out operations in the service’s departments in Jabrayil, Agdash and Baku’s Garadagh district. The detained officials were brought to Baku after the raids.
Earlier reports said two officials had initially been detained in the Saatli district department on suspicion of taking bribes. Authorities also indicated that operations were continuing in several other regional branches of the service.
The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed the fact of the operation in a comment to local media.
