A restaurant in Sumgayit has barred customers wearing shorts, sparking debate over dress codes at private businesses.

The rule was introduced by the Central Park restaurant. Owner Ali Ahmadov told Axar.az that the restriction is part of the establishment’s internal policy.

Ahmadov said the restaurant is intended as a family venue and requires guests to follow certain standards of dress.

“This is my private business, and like any workplace, we have our own rules,” he said.

“Which official workplace allows people to enter wearing shorts? Families come here to relax, so we do not allow entry in shorts.”

The owner also rejected other claims made about the restaurant and said the business operates in accordance with Azerbaijani law.
