Azerbaijani TikToker Ilduza Hajiyeva, known online as Arzum, has been sentenced to five years and two months in prison over a fatal traffic accident.
The Khazar District Court found Hajiyeva guilty of causing a road accident that resulted in a person’s death and leaving the scene, Qafqazinfo reported.
She will serve her sentence in a general-regime correctional facility and was taken into custody in the courtroom after the verdict was announced.
During the final hearing, Hajiyeva maintained that she was not guilty.
“I have not considered myself guilty from the first day. If someone passes me at high speed and crashes, why should I be held responsible?” she said in her final statement.
She also said she had been separated from her children for six months and hoped the court would issue a fair ruling.
The court cited the serious consequences of the crash when determining the sentence. It also noted that no reconciliation had been reached with the victim’s family, which prevented the application of more lenient measures.
