The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline provide reliable routes for uninterrupted energy transport, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in New York.
Erdoğan made the comments at a meeting with U.S. business representatives. He said Turkey and the United States had completed work on important agreements in energy, aviation and other strategic fields.
The United States has become Turkey’s leading supplier of liquefied natural gas, Erdoğan said, adding that Ankara intends to expand energy cooperation with Washington in all areas, including nuclear power.
Azerbaijan’s Role
Erdoğan described the reshaping of energy routes after the end of regional conflicts as a key development and highlighted BTC and TANAP.
Both projects are strategically important to Azerbaijan. BTC carries Azerbaijani oil through Georgia to the Turkish port of Ceyhan, while TANAP is the central link in the Southern Gas Corridor, delivering gas to Turkey and onward to Europe.
The Turkish president also said global supply chains were being reorganized, with companies seeking routes that are not only inexpensive but also resilient and reliable.
He linked future opportunities to development of the Middle Corridor between Asia and Europe, infrastructure rebuilding in conflict zones and deeper cooperation between U.S. and Turkish businesses.
