Azerbaijan plans to attract about 1.1 billion manats ($647 million) in investment for nine public-private partnership projects, with four of them accounting for 643 million manats in projected capital spending.
The figures were presented Oct. 14 at the Third National Competition Forum in Baku by Türkan Vüsət, head of the Public-Private Partnership Sector at the Economy Ministry’s Project Management Department, according to Report.
The four projects with specified costs cover water infrastructure, education, environmental services and transportation. Together, they are expected to require 643 million manats, or about $378 million.
Four Projects Account for 643 Million Manats
The largest single allocation among the four is 240 million manats ($141 million) for repairs at the Hovsan aeration station and the installation of equipment to reuse treated wastewater. The Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency is the public partner.
A further 156 million manats ($91.8 million) is planned for the second and third phases of a science and technology park in Baku, with the Ministry of Science and Education acting as the state partner.
The planned solid-waste management project in the Lankaran district carries projected capital spending of 221 million manats ($130 million). The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources is the public partner.
The fourth project calls for 26 million manats ($15.3 million) to establish TIR parks serving freight transport. The Ministry of Digital Development and Transport is the state partner.
International Interest in Wastewater Project
More than 35 companies from 17 countries have expressed interest in the wastewater-treatment modernization project, and a competitive procedure has begun, APA reported.
Four projects from the broader list have moved into implementation, while talks with potential investors are continuing on the others.
The announced 1.1 billion manats is a planned investment total, not money already spent. Officials did not give a completion timetable for all nine projects.
