Azerbaijan exported 18.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the first nine months of 2026, up 0.5% from a year earlier, even as shipments to Europe fell 8.5% to 8.6 billion cubic meters.

The January-September figures were reported by Report.az and APA.az, citing Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry.

Exports to Türkiye declined 4.1% to 7 billion cubic meters. Of that total, 4.2 billion cubic meters moved through the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline, or TANAP, down 2.3% from the same period of 2025.

Deliveries to Georgia were broadly unchanged at about 1.6 billion cubic meters, while Syria received 1.2 billion cubic meters.

Gas Output Declines

Azerbaijan produced 37.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the nine-month period, a decrease of 0.8% from a year earlier.

Production at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field complex rose 5.9% to 10.8 billion cubic meters. Shah Deniz output fell 1.4% to 20.6 billion cubic meters, while SOCAR production declined 10.2% to 5.3 billion cubic meters. The Absheron field held production at about 1.2 billion cubic meters.

Oil Output Remains Below OPEC+ Quota

Azerbaijan produced 19.9 million metric tons of oil and gas condensate during the period and exported 15.5 million tons. Average daily output of crude oil and condensate was 547,000 barrels.

Crude oil alone averaged 446,000 barrels a day, 105,000 barrels below Azerbaijan’s OPEC+ quota of 551,000 barrels a day.

The Baku oil refinery processed 4.5 million tons of crude in January-September, down 2.2% from the same period of 2025.

Since production began at Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and Shah Deniz, the two projects had produced about 684.5 million tons of oil and condensate and 540 billion cubic meters of gas through Oct. 1, 2026. Of those totals, 682.5 million tons of oil and 206.4 billion cubic meters of gas were exported.
