Azerbaijan and Malaysia are considering reciprocal visa-free travel and direct air service as part of efforts to expand tourism and business ties.

President Ilham Aliyev discussed the proposals on October 5 with Malaysia’s new ambassador to Azerbaijan, Aznifa Isnaria binti Abdul Ghani.

Aliyev said economic cooperation should be raised to the level of the two countries’ political relationship. He identified energy, investment, tourism and continued political dialogue as priority areas.

Invitations and Education Exchanges

The ambassador delivered invitations for Aliyev to visit Malaysia from King Sultan Ibrahim and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Aliyev accepted and invited both Malaysian leaders to visit Azerbaijan.

The sides also discussed education. Azerbaijani students study in Malaysia, while Malaysian students attend institutions in Azerbaijan under state scholarship programs.
