BAKU — President Ilham Aliyev has received Tiina Nirk, Estonia’s first ambassador appointed to Azerbaijan, as the two countries linked the opening of Estonia’s embassy in Baku to a new stage in bilateral relations.
Nirk presented her credentials on Sept. 23, according to Vesti Baku.
The meeting covered political dialogue, business, information technology, logistics and education. Nirk highlighted Azerbaijan’s position along the Middle Corridor and said there was potential to expand the partnership.
Embassy and Practical Cooperation
Aliyev emphasized the role of reciprocal visits and regular contacts in developing relations between Azerbaijan and Estonia. The two sides also discussed the work of their intergovernmental commission on economic and trade cooperation.
Nirk said about 200 Azerbaijani students were studying in Estonia. She also praised Azerbaijan’s humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
Aliyev said Baku’s relations with the European Union were developing and referred to visits to Azerbaijan this year by leaders of key EU institutions.
