As construction and road projects increase across Azerbaijan, demand for heavy equipment rentals is also growing. For many business owners, buying an excavator, bulldozer, crane or груз truck outright is too expensive, making rentals the more practical option.
That has also created an opportunity for investors who buy large machinery in cash or on credit and then lease it out. Market participants say demand has risen compared with previous years, while rental prices vary depending on the type of equipment and the length of the contract.
Industry participants say short- and medium-term rentals remain the most common. During busy seasons, interest in short-term rentals rises even further. In many cases, clients rent machinery together with an operator, which is seen as a safer and more efficient way to carry out the work.
Current estimates suggest that monthly excavator rentals range from 5,500 to 10,000 manats, while bulldozers rent for 6,000 to 9,400 manats a month.
Rates can differ in the regions. In Goychay, for example, users of heavy machinery say renting a large truck, dump truck or excavator usually costs around 4,000 to 5,000 manats, depending on the job and operating conditions.
People working in the sector say the business can be profitable, but it also comes with serious costs and risks. Among the main issues are expensive spare parts, high maintenance bills and ongoing repair costs. For that reason, renters are advised to make sure the equipment is insured and to avoid machines with technical problems.
Economist Khalid Karimli says the choice between buying and renting depends mainly on how long the equipment will be needed. If a project is long-term, purchasing may make more sense. If the work is short-term, renting is usually the better financial option.
Rental prices are also shaped by the power of the machine, its original purchase cost, age, technical condition, durability and repair expenses. In the end, the market follows a familiar pattern: the stronger the demand and the more expensive the upkeep, the higher the rental price.
Specialists say both owners and renters should formalize such deals properly. Otherwise, if payment is delayed or the equipment is damaged, serious disputes can arise over compensation and financial liability.
