Ilham Aliyev Arrives In Georgia On State Visit

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Georgia on a state visit on April 6, accompanied by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. He was received at Tbilisi’s Shota Rustaveli International Airport by Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili and other officials.

According to Azerbaijani media reports from Tbilisi, a guard of honor was lined up at the airport for Aliyev’s arrival. The visit then moved into a series of ceremonial events in the Georgian capital.

Aliyev and the first lady visited the Heroes Memorial in Tbilisi, where the Azerbaijani leader laid a wreath. The national anthems of Azerbaijan and Georgia were played during the ceremony, local reports said.

The Azerbaijani president and first lady also visited the monument to Heydar Aliyev at the park bearing his name in Tbilisi, where another wreath-laying ceremony was held.

An official welcome ceremony was later held in Tbilisi, with Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili receiving Aliyev. During the ceremony, the chief of the guard of honor reported to the Azerbaijani president, the two countries’ anthems were played, and the two presidents passed along the line of honor guards.
