At least 21 people were killed in one of Russia’s largest recent missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, with children among the victims, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The heaviest reported losses were in Pryluky in the Chernihiv region, where a five-story residential building was destroyed. Local officials said 15 people were killed there, including four children, and about 50 others were injured.
Seventy Missiles and Strikes on Energy Infrastructure
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces used 70 missiles of various types, many of them ballistic. Ukrainian authorities also reported strikes on Kyiv, Oleksandriia, Kremenchuk, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia.
Ukraine’s Energy Ministry introduced partial emergency power cuts in five regions after energy infrastructure was damaged.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia also launched 46 high-speed jet-powered drones and claimed that more than 80% were intercepted. That assessment could not be independently verified.
Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed a large-scale strike and said it targeted military-industrial enterprises, port and ship-repair infrastructure, and vessels allegedly used in support of the Ukrainian armed forces. Moscow’s claims could not be independently verified.
The casualty count was updated during the day and may change as rescue operations continue.
