A technical glitch that caused duplicate charges on the accounts of some bank customers in Azerbaijan has been resolved.

The Central Bank of Azerbaijan said the incident affecting customers of several banks connected to Azerikard was not linked to a cyberattack or fraud. According to the regulator, the issue was caused by technical reasons.

The Central Bank stressed that no problems have been observed with the stability, reliability or resilience of the country’s payment systems, processing centers, commercial banks or payment infrastructure.

“The technical malfunction has already been eliminated,” the statement said.

Earlier, Azerikard said the problem with card transactions at some banks did not originate from the company itself. According to Azerikard, the issue was caused by duplicate entries that appeared during the processing of interbank settlement files for technical reasons beyond its control.

The company said duplicated transactions were being canceled and customer accounts were gradually being restored.

Bank customers were urged to rely only on information from official sources and avoid spreading unverified claims.
