U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs Caleb Orr is in Azerbaijan for a working visit, the State Department said.
Orr’s visit to Azerbaijan will continue until June 3.
The trip comes as Baku hosts Baku Energy Week on June 1-2 and prepares to hold the first U.S.-Azerbaijan Economic Dialogue.
The dialogue is scheduled for June 2 and will be organized jointly by Azerbaijan’s Economy Ministry and the U.S. State Department.
The event will be held in line with the U.S.-Azerbaijan Strategic Partnership Charter.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan, the dialogue is aimed at expanding cooperation in regional connectivity, trade, industry, transit, energy security, investment, artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure.
A special session with the participation of U.S. and Azerbaijani business communities will also be held as part of the dialogue.
Several cooperation documents and commercial agreements are expected to be signed during the session.
The timing of the visit gives the dialogue added weight. Baku Energy Week has long been one of Azerbaijan’s main international platforms for energy cooperation, but the agenda is now expanding beyond traditional oil and gas.
For Azerbaijan, the dialogue reflects its effort to position itself not only as an energy supplier, but also as a regional hub for transport, connectivity, digital infrastructure and investment between Europe, the Caspian region and Central Asia.
For the United States, the format points to a broader economic agenda with Azerbaijan, including energy security, trade routes, technology and private-sector engagement.
The first economic dialogue is expected to be one of the key events of Baku Energy Week.
