BAKU, Azerbaijan - French tubular-products maker Vallourec has won a major TotalEnergies contract to supply more than 16,000 tons of pipe for the full-field development of the Absheron gas and condensate field in Azerbaijan’s sector of the Caspian Sea.

The contract covers oil-country tubular goods for wells and about 159 kilometers, or 99 miles, of line pipe with anticorrosion coating for onshore and offshore applications.

Some of the products will be designed for demanding offshore conditions. The package also includes accessories and technical solutions intended to reduce the environmental impact of operations.

Caspian Production Plans

Vallourec plans to involve its VAM Caspian facility in the project and provide TotalEnergies with technical support during different stages of development.

The Absheron field is about 100 kilometers, or 62 miles, southeast of Baku in water roughly 500 meters deep. The full-field development phase is expected to raise production to approximately 5.5 billion cubic meters of gas a year.

The gas is intended for Azerbaijan’s domestic market and for export. The companies did not disclose the value of the pipe contract.
