Reports that Baku Girls’ University could be closed have caused concern among students, who say they have received no official information from the institution’s administration.
Students said they learned about the possible closure through news websites and social media.
“We have heard that the university is closing, but no one has told us anything. We do not know what will happen to us,” one student said.
Students are also concerned about whether their degrees will remain recognized, whether they would be transferred to other institutions and whether graduates will be able to continue their studies at the master’s level.
Journalists who visited the university seeking clarification received no response from the administration.
Azerbaijan’s Education Quality Assurance Agency said the university’s institutional accreditation assessment resulted in a finding of “non-compliance.”
Shortcomings were also identified in its primary-school teaching and preschool education programs. Several programs will undergo repeat accreditation in two years.
However, the agency emphasized that no final decision has been made on terminating the university’s operations. The institution’s status and the future of its students therefore remain uncertain.
