A young child has died after his leg became trapped in a water pump at a swimming pool inside the Sea Breeze resort complex in Nardaran, Baku.
Emergency responders were dispatched after Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations received a call through its 112 hotline, AZE.US reports, citing Report.
Teams from the ministry’s Special Risk Rescue Service and State Fire Protection Service were sent to the resort. Rescuers and emergency medical personnel attempted to save the child, including through resuscitation measures, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The victim was identified only as A. Abdullayev, born in 2022.
Relevant government agencies have launched an investigation to establish the precise circumstances of the tragedy and determine whether safety requirements were followed in the operation of the pool and its pumping equipment.
The child’s death raises urgent questions about safety at one of Azerbaijan’s most prominent resort developments.
Were the pool’s pump openings properly secured with protective covers? Was an emergency shutdown system available? Were trained lifeguards present, and when was the equipment last inspected?
It would be premature to assign responsibility before the investigation is completed. However, the Sea Breeze management and regulatory authorities must provide clear answers about how a swimming pool apparently designed for families became the scene of a child’s death.
