Peaches are selling for between 2.50 and 6 manats ($1.47–$3.53) per kilogram at markets in Baku, while farmers in Azerbaijan’s regions say they are struggling to sell their harvest.
Videos circulating on social media show crates of unsold peaches being dumped, AZE.US reports, citing local television channel ATV.
The footage highlights a striking contradiction: part of the harvest is going to waste in agricultural regions, while consumers in the capital face prices of up to 6 manats per kilogram.
Peaches are consumed fresh and widely used to produce juice, jam and other products. However, some farmers reportedly lack reliable channels to sell or process their harvest before it spoils.
As a result, producers suffer financial losses while Baku residents continue to pay relatively high retail prices.
The gap between farm and market prices has once again raised questions about the efficiency of Azerbaijan’s agricultural supply chain, including purchasing, transportation, storage and wholesale distribution.
