Uzbekistan is considering taking part in the construction of a railway through Nakhchivan that would provide access to the Turkish ports of Samsun and Istanbul.
The project was included in plans presented to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for expanding Uzbekistan’s transport and logistics routes.
Authorities are studying possible participation, but no financing decision or construction schedule has been announced. For Azerbaijan, the initiative could strengthen transit through Nakhchivan and connections with Turkey.
By 2030, Tashkent plans to double the volume of transport services, attract $9.1 billion in investment to the sector and increase transport-service exports to $5.7 billion.
Uzbekistan also plans to develop logistics infrastructure in Aktau, Turkmenbashi, Baku, Poti and Anaklia. An agreement has been reached on a center in the Georgian port of Poti, and a feasibility study is being prepared.
Uzbek authorities expect the new routes to support exports of textiles, chemicals, agricultural goods and metallurgical products.
