Azerbaijani entrepreneurs are increasingly considering moving their businesses abroad instead of expanding at home, economist Natig Jafarli said.
Jafarli said recent conversations with business owners have focused on relocating operations to Georgia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan or other countries.
“No one says, ‘I want to develop my business here and invest money,’” he wrote. “The main dream of business has become moving its activities to another country.”
Call for Review of Business Climate
Jafarli described the trend as a serious warning sign and said governments use business surveys to assess the investment climate. He urged officials to examine why entrepreneurs may no longer see their future in the domestic market.
“Esteemed gentlemen in ties, do you see and feel that such a situation has developed?” he asked.
His comments reflect his assessment rather than official statistics. If the trend is confirmed, it would point to declining confidence among domestic businesses.
