President Ilham Aliyev has warned that disinformation and fake content created with artificial intelligence directly undermine public trust and can affect relations between states.
The message was delivered to participants in the first media forum of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, or CICA, in Baku. The event is being held under the theme “Building Trust Through Media in a Polarized World.”
Aliyev said that in the digital era, information can influence both public opinion and interstate relations. The growing role of social networks and digital platforms, he said, increases the need for professionalism, objectivity and responsibility in journalism.
Platform Responsibility and Media Literacy
The president described reliable information as a measure of the quality of the broader information environment. Protecting it, he said, requires closer cooperation among public institutions, news organizations, digital platforms, journalists, researchers and civil society.
Aliyev also emphasized media literacy and the responsible use of new technologies as conditions for building durable trust.
CICA brings together 28 states and covers about 90% of Asia’s territory, according to the address. Azerbaijan has chaired the organization for the past two years and has sought to expand practical cooperation and strengthen its institutional capacity and international role.
Aliyev said the forum, organized ahead of the CICA summit, should support joint media projects, exchanges of experience and more effective communication among member states. Presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev read the address at the event.
