A resident of Azerbaijan’s Gadabay district says he cannot sell a car he bought and officially registered in his name six years ago because of a debt linked to the vehicle’s previous owner.
According to Xəzər Xəbər, Suleyman Aliyev contacted the TV channel’s hotline and said he purchased the car six years ago, keeping its previous license plate, and had the vehicle officially transferred into his ownership.
This year, Aliyev decided to sell the car. However, when he went to a notary office to issue a power of attorney, he was told that the vehicle could not be sold.
According to the resident, the reason was a restriction placed on the sale of the car in 2022 by the Samukh District Enforcement and Probation Department. Aliyev says the restriction is connected to a bank debt owed by the previous owner.
The man says the car had already been registered in his name in 2020 and that he has no connection to the former owner’s debt.
“I do not know what case this was related to or on what grounds it happened. Because of the previous owner’s bank debt, a restriction was placed on my car, on my property,” he said.
Aliyev says he has appealed to the relevant authorities but has not yet received a concrete result. According to him, the Interior Ministry told him that there were no restrictions on the vehicle at the time it was registered in his name.
He also said he contacted the 881 hotline, where he was told the matter would be reviewed. However, Aliyev says he has still not received any response.
In response to an inquiry from the TV channel, the Ministry of Justice said the matter would be investigated. Appropriate steps will be taken to resolve the citizen’s problem based on the results of the review.
