Drivers in Azerbaijan have been reminded of the rules for using the AzParking system, as confusion continues over the 15-minute free parking period.
One of the most common complaints from drivers is that they do not always have enough time to activate parking immediately after stopping the car. Some say the system may record a violation before they manage to open the app or enter the parking zone details.
The biggest misunderstanding concerns the 15-minute grace period. Many drivers believe they can leave their car parked without taking any action during this time and only start payment later if they stay longer.
Experts say this is not how the rule works.
The 15-minute free period does not mean that parking can remain inactive. Even if a driver plans to use only the free period, the parking session must still be started in the system as soon as the car is parked.
According to specialists, this mistake is one of the main reasons drivers receive fines. A driver may leave the car, assume the first 15 minutes are automatically free, and only later realize that a violation was recorded because the parking session was never activated.
The Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency said that drivers must start the parking session immediately after parking their vehicle and end it once they leave the parking area.
The agency stressed that even the 15-minute free period must be activated in the system. If the required procedure is not followed, the system may detect a violation. In that case, a fine may be issued, along with payment for the parking time recorded.
Officials also noted that several simplifications have recently been introduced in parking zones. Some codes have been removed and the number of zones has been reduced to make the process easier for drivers.
