Property owners in Azerbaijan have been reminded of the rules for paying municipal property tax.
According to Vesti Baku, local taxes are collected by municipalities under Azerbaijan’s Tax Code. If a citizen owns property registered in the state registry, that person is required to pay municipal tax.
The rule applies to homes, apartments, non-residential premises and other buildings owned by individuals. The tax is calculated by the municipality in the area where the property is located.
The amount is based on the size of the property, with the tax calculated per square meter of residential or other building space.
Municipalities must send payment notices to taxpayers each year by August 1. The amount shown in the notice may be paid in two installments: the first by August 15 and the second by November 15.
Payments are transferred to the budget of the relevant municipality.
If the tax is not paid within the required deadlines, a penalty of 0.1% may be charged for each day of delay. Property owners are therefore advised to check their payment notices in advance and avoid missing the deadlines.
