MOSCOW - Russia has extended its ban on diesel exports by fuel producers through the end of October, maintaining restrictions as global supplies tighten and prices reach record levels.
The Russian government said Wednesday that the measure would remain in force for another month, according to Reuters and Vesti Baku.
Moscow has repeatedly restricted gasoline and diesel exports to contain domestic price increases and address shortages linked to Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries.
Global Diesel Market Under Pressure
Russia is normally the world’s second-largest diesel exporter after the United States. Its reduced shipments add pressure to a market already affected by the wars in Ukraine and Iran, costly logistics and low inventories.
U.S. retail diesel prices have risen above $6.50 a gallon, while pump prices in Britain have reached record nominal levels. Analysts have warned that the shortage could persist into 2027.
The restrictions include exceptions for some supplies made under intergovernmental agreements, including shipments to several former Soviet republics and Mongolia.
Russia had previously extended the producer ban through Sept. 30. A broader restriction on exporters that do not produce diesel remains in effect through Jan. 31, 2027, while exports of aviation fuel are restricted through the end of November.
The latest extension means Russian volumes will not return quickly to the global market in October, leaving transport, industry and agriculture in importing countries exposed to elevated fuel costs.
