Railway operators from six countries have signed a protocol to expand the CASCA+ international multimodal transport route linking Central Asia with the South Caucasus, Türkiye and European markets.

Representatives of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia and Türkiye signed the document after a meeting of railway administrations in Tashkent on Oct. 7-8.

According to Trend, the participants agreed to focus on increasing freight volumes, improving tariff conditions and reducing container delays along the route.

Planned Operational Changes

The six sides discussed competitive rates for cargo carried in refrigerated containers, the regular provision of fitting platforms across the full route and shorter container waiting times at ports.

The protocol formalizes those agreements and establishes priorities for further cooperation. The stated goal is to improve transport efficiency, strengthen coordination among national railway operators and expand the route’s role in trade between Asia and Europe.

For Azerbaijan, CASCA+ complements transport links across the Caspian Sea and reinforces the country’s role as a transit bridge connecting Central Asia with Georgia and Türkiye.
