A video circulating on TikTok claims that a watermelon sold in Azerbaijan contained nitrate levels nearly 10 times higher than the permitted limit.
The fruit was tested using a portable nitrate meter. According to the person who recorded the video, the allowed level for watermelon is 60 milligrams per kilogram.
When the intact watermelon was tested through the rind, the device reportedly showed 610 milligrams per kilogram. After the fruit was cut open, a separate test of the flesh showed around 470 milligrams per kilogram.
Based on these readings, the author of the video claimed that the nitrate content was nearly 10 times higher than the permitted level.
However, the results have not been confirmed by an independent laboratory, and no official statement has been issued by the relevant state authorities regarding the product.
