New roadside cameras installed along Baku’s Zigh highway have prompted concern among drivers, some of whom suspected the devices were hidden speed radars.
As AZE.US reports, a motorist recorded a warning video on the Zigh-Hovsan-airport road, claiming that the newly installed device photographs vehicles from behind and may be difficult for approaching drivers to notice.
The Intelligent Transport Management Center denied that the equipment is used to detect speeding.
Officials said the devices monitor traffic volume and collect data on vehicle flows. The information is used to analyze road conditions, organize traffic and improve transport management.
The center emphasized that the cameras do not measure vehicle speed and cannot automatically issue electronic citations for traffic violations.
Drivers were nevertheless urged to obey traffic regulations and remain within posted speed limits.
