Heydar Karimli, the son of Azerbaijani lawmaker Azer Karimli, is among 500 students selected this year to study abroad under Azerbaijan’s state-funded education program. He has been admitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States.
According to Modern.az, 155 of this year’s recipients will continue their education at universities ranked among the world’s top 10.
Seven Azerbaijani students have been admitted to leading U.S. institutions including MIT, Harvard University and Stanford University.
Among them is Heydar Karimli, who will pursue a master’s degree in finance at MIT.
His studies will be financed under Azerbaijan’s State Program for education abroad.
MIT, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is one of the world’s most prestigious private research universities and is particularly known for engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence and the natural sciences.
The university ranks No. 1 in the QS World University Rankings 2027.
Azer Karimli’s elder son, Fakhri Karimli, also completed his higher education in the United States and is a graduate of Harvard University.
The report did not specify the exact amount of public funding that will be allocated for Heydar Karimli’s tuition and other education-related expenses.
