Azerbaijani champions Sabah suffered a heavy defeat in their opening UEFA Champions League league-phase match, losing 4-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Matheus Cunha opened the scoring in the 27th minute before Bruno Fernandes doubled United’s lead three minutes before halftime. Benjamin Šeško added a third goal in the 45th minute, while Lisandro Martínez completed the scoring in the 68th.
Following Sabah’s defeat, Azerbaijan ended the European competition week in 25th place in the UEFA country coefficient ranking with 23.687 points.
Israel sits just ahead in 24th place with 23.875 points, while Slovenia is 26th with 22.843. England leads the ranking with 103.130 points.
Sabah will host Czech club Slavia Prague in Baku on October 13 in their next Champions League fixture.
