Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers has barred students from wearing clothing elements that undermine the consistency of the prescribed school uniform or the secular character of education.
The changes were introduced under Resolution No. 309, dated Sept. 21, Vesti Baku reports.
Parents or other legal representatives of students are responsible for compliance. A school’s pedagogical council will consider disputes over whether clothing meets the rules.
An exception applies to events marking historical and cultural dates or national values. With the pedagogical council’s approval, students may wear national dress or individual elements of it on those occasions.
Schools must publish their decisions on their websites or information boards within five working days, making the requirements available to families before they are applied.
