Iranian airlines suspended flights to Azerbaijan on Sept. 22 after a new package of U.S. sanctions targeting Iran’s aviation sector, Azerbaijani authorities said.
Azerbaijan Airlines, or AZAL, and the State Civil Aviation Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport confirmed the suspension.
AZAL said the U.S. restrictions, particularly measures affecting Iranian aviation, forced carriers from the Islamic Republic to halt flights to Azerbaijan. No date has been announced for service to resume.
Advice for Passengers
Passengers who have already purchased tickets from Iranian airlines for travel to Azerbaijan were advised to contact the carriers directly or the sales offices where the tickets were issued.
The suspension is a direct operational consequence of tighter sanctions pressure on Iranian aviation. Earlier U.S. measures had targeted companies and intermediaries supporting Iran’s air transport operations.
