Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed further mutual steps by Azerbaijan and Armenia in the peace process after meeting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in New York on Sept. 23.
The leaders met at the Turkish House during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and discussed Turkey-Armenia relations as well as regional and international issues.
Erdoğan said Turkey supports normalization with Armenia in trade and transportation and stressed the importance of maintaining the positive momentum achieved so far.
He also said Ankara welcomes reciprocal steps by Azerbaijan and Armenia toward peace, again placing Turkey’s normalization with Armenia within the broader regional process involving Baku and Yerevan.
Erdoğan said cooperation between Turkey and Armenia in international organizations contributes to normalization. He invited Pashinyan to attend the COP31 leaders’ summit in Turkey.
No new agreement, border-opening date or timetable for launching transport routes was announced after the meeting.
