Azerbaijan and China consistently support each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, President Ilham Aliyev said in a message to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Aliyev sent the letter on the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, calling China a friendly country and a reliable strategic partner of Azerbaijan.
He said a high level of political dialogue, mutual trust and support for territorial integrity have become defining features of bilateral relations. Aliyev described the elevation of ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership as the result of shared political will in Baku and Beijing.
Middle Corridor and Renewable Energy
Aliyev pointed to expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics. He said the visa-free regime, in effect for a year, has increased tourism and humanitarian contacts.
The president also highlighted the Belt and Road Initiative, the Middle Corridor and other transport projects linking China, Central Asia and Azerbaijan.
Renewable energy has become another area of cooperation. Aliyev cited the work of China’s Universal Energy and the Gobustan solar power plant in Azerbaijan as examples of increasingly diverse economic ties.
