BAKU, Azerbaijan — The dry cargo fleet of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company, known as ASCO, carried 1.252 million tons of freight in the first eight months of 2026, a 43% increase from the same period a year earlier.
ASCO vessels transported 875,950 tons of dry cargo in January through August 2025. The year-over-year increase therefore exceeded 376,000 tons.
Growth accelerated sharply in August. The company’s dry cargo vessels carried 168,970 tons during the month, compared with 95,580 tons in August 2025.
That was an increase of 73,380 tons, or 77%, from a year earlier.
Role in Caspian Freight Routes
ASCO provides the maritime component of freight routes across the Caspian Sea and serves international transit traffic passing through Azerbaijan. The higher volumes indicate increased use of the company’s dry cargo fleet.
The company’s reported figures did not include a breakdown by cargo type or shipping route.
