Azerbaijan said it does not recognize the “presidential election” held Sept. 18 in Georgia’s Tskhinvali region or its results.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry issued the statement Sept. 22 and reaffirmed Baku’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan does not recognize the ‘presidential election’ held in Georgia’s Tskhinvali region or its results,” the ministry said.

The Tskhinvali region is outside the control of Georgia’s central government. Azerbaijan has consistently supported resolving territorial conflicts on the basis of state sovereignty and territorial integrity.
