Cucumber prices have risen sharply across markets in Baku and several regions of Azerbaijan.
While cucumbers were recently sold for 40 to 70 gapiks per kilogram, prices in regional markets have now climbed to around 1.30 to 1.50 manats.
In Baku, prices have reached 2 manats per kilogram, while some varieties, including cucumbers from Zira, are being offered for as much as 3 manats ($1.76).
Sellers attribute the increase to a weaker harvest this year. They say farmers are collecting significantly less produce than in previous seasons.
Weather conditions, damage to cucumber vines and plant disease have also reduced local supply. As a result, some markets are relying more heavily on deliveries from Shamkir and Goychay.
In Barda, prices have been rising for about 10 days. Traders say the increase has already reduced demand, with shoppers buying smaller quantities.
Sellers believe prices may fall again in the coming days if supplies increase.
