Fares on several shared taxi routes operating from Baku’s Koroglu metro station to surrounding settlements have increased by 50 gapiks.
The vehicles, commonly known among residents as “one-manat taxis,” carry thousands of passengers each day to Yeni Ramana, Surakhani, Bina, Mardakan, Shuvalan, Gala, Zabrat and Pirshaghi.
The fare was 1 manat ($0.59) per passenger around eight or nine years ago. After 2023, it increased to 1.50 manats ($0.88).
In recent days, drivers operating routes to Yeni Ramana, the Social Housing complex, Bina, Zabrat and Pirshaghi have begun charging 2 manats ($1.18) per passenger.
After 11 p.m. and during rainy weather, fares can rise to 3 manats ($1.76).
Drivers attributed the increase to higher service fees at the taxi stand near Koroglu station and frequent traffic fines.
