Chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Sardar Jalaloglu has once again made crude and degrading remarks about Azerbaijani society, this time during an interview with the program “Künc-Bucaq.”
As Vesti Baku reports, the politician claimed that there are men in Azerbaijan who consciously want to marry prostitutes or who themselves push their wives into prostitution.
“I say this as a doctor: in Azerbaijan, there are some guys who are consciously interested in marrying a prostitute.
Either they go and take a prostitute, or they marry a woman and themselves involve their wives in prostitution.
This is also another psychological problem in Azerbaijan,” Jalaloglu said.
In effect, the party chairman once again crossed the line of acceptable public speech.
Instead of political discussion or a serious analysis of social problems, the public heard sweeping, offensive and humiliating statements that cast a shadow over entire groups of people and society as a whole.
This is not the first time Jalaloglu has found himself at the center of a scandal over insulting remarks. Earlier, he sparked outrage after speaking about Azerbaijani women, saying that in Azerbaijan a woman leaves the house as if she is going “to a bar or a restaurant,” while allegedly not taking care of herself at home.
“She does not take care of herself at home, but when she goes outside, she is perfumed, made up and dressed up. The question arises: who are you doing this for?” the politician said.
In the same remarks, Jalaloglu compared perceptions of female beauty to the animal world.
“Look, in the animal world there is no concept of beauty. There, they choose a female that can produce healthy offspring. But a person often looks at a woman not through her feminine qualities, but as a sexual object,” he stated.
After Jalaloglu’s latest remarks, it is becoming clear that this is no longer about a single unfortunate statement. It looks like a recurring manner of speaking about Azerbaijanis in a degrading tone. For a politician who claims a public role, such rhetoric is not simply crude, it is openly unacceptable.
It should also be noted that Sardar Jalaloglu is not a random figure in Azerbaijan’s public sphere. In 2018, he ran for president of Azerbaijan and, according to official results, finished third. In 2024, he also put forward his candidacy in the snap parliamentary elections, but later withdrew.
And it is precisely a person with such a political background, someone who once ran for president of Azerbaijan, who now allows himself to speak publicly about Azerbaijani society in this tone.
