Pezeshkian Tells Aliyev Iran Not Behind Nakhchivan Attack

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a phone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on March 8, during which the leaders discussed the recent incident involving reported aerial fire toward Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan region.

According to Azerbaijan’s Report news agency, Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to Aliyev for visiting the Iranian embassy in Baku to offer condolences following the deaths of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and numerous civilians.

The Iranian president also thanked Azerbaijan for its intention to provide humanitarian assistance to Iran.

During the conversation, Pezeshkian stated that Iran was not connected to the incident involving the reported aerial attack on Nakhchivan and emphasized that the event would be investigated.

Aliyev, in turn, reiterated his condolences over the deaths of civilians in Iran following the recent developments in the region.

The Azerbaijani president also stressed the importance of conducting a thorough investigation into the Nakhchivan incident.

According to the report, the two leaders also exchanged views on the prospects for developing joint economic projects between Azerbaijan and Iran.
