Cars advertised with taxi permits are increasingly being sold at higher prices in Azerbaijan, as sellers try to market them not just as vehicles, but as a faster route to daily income.
According to local market participants, vehicles with documents linked to taxi activity attract more attention from buyers. The logic is simple: a car that appears ready for taxi work looks more valuable to someone who wants to start earning quickly.
Auto market specialist Sarkhan Gadirov said demand for such vehicles is higher because buyers see the permit as an advantage. In some cases, sellers highlight that the car has a taxi permit, release card or certificate, and use it as a reason to raise the price.
The size of the markup varies. Some sellers ask 2,000 to 3,000 manats more than comparable vehicles, while market estimates more often place the difference at around 1,000 to 2,000 manats. In other cases, the premium may be only 200 to 300 manats.
The trend is tied to the procedures required to work legally as a taxi. Getting the necessary permission may involve checks, paperwork and time. For sellers, that has turned taxi-related documentation into a commercial argument.
In online car listings, this is already visible. Some ads directly mention that a vehicle has a taxi permit or is ready for taxi activity. Others present the car almost like a small business opportunity, appealing to buyers who want to begin earning immediately.
But there is an important legal detail.
Azerbaijan’s Land Transport Agency says a driver who has a certificate of special training may apply for a taxi permit card for one vehicle. However, if the vehicle is sold, or if ownership, use or lease documents change, the permit card is canceled.
That means a buyer does not automatically receive the previous taxi permit together with the car.
For that reason, the phrase “ready for taxi” can be misleading if buyers assume the permit will transfer with the vehicle. In practice, the new owner may still have to go through the required procedure again.
The new market trend is clear: taxi-linked cars are being promoted more aggressively and, in many cases, priced higher. But the real value of that permit depends on whether it remains valid after the deal – and under current rules, it does not.
