Azerbaijan is considering changes that would expand access to insurance payments following workplace accidents and raise the maximum one-time payout to 400,000 manats ($235,294).
Under amendments submitted for discussion in the Milli Majlis, coverage would apply not only to employees working under formal labor contracts, but also to volunteers, interns, university students and school pupils completing practical training.
MP Vugar Bayramov said the proposed system would also change the way compensation is calculated.
The new mechanism would take into account the loss of professional working capacity, allowing people with less severe injuries to qualify for payments. Under the proposal, compensation could be available even when the assessed loss is below 30%.
The draft law would also introduce a ceiling for one-time insurance payments equal to 1,000 times the minimum monthly wage.
Based on the current minimum wage, the maximum payout would amount to 400,000 manats.
The amendments are still under parliamentary consideration and would take effect only after final approval.
