A planned reservoir on the Hakarichay River is designed to improve drinking-water supplies for about 700,000 people in seven districts of Azerbaijan’s Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur regions.
Akif Guliyev, a representative of the State Water Resources Agency, said the reservoir would have a total capacity of 100 million cubic meters, including 90 million cubic meters of usable storage.
The project includes a 172-kilometer main distribution line serving Lachin, Gubadli, Jabrayil, Zangilan, Fuzuli, Khojavend and Aghdam.
Plans also call for three hydroelectric power plants with a combined capacity of 10.8 megawatts.
Guliyev said authorities may consider restoring the Bargushad reservoir after the Hakarichay project. No commissioning date was announced.
