BAKU - Direct train service between Baku Metro’s Hazi Aslanov and Icherisheher stations resumed on Oct. 27, ending a temporary shuttle arrangement that had required passengers to change trains at Ahmadli.
Baku Metro canceled the shuttle service on the Hazi Aslanov-Ahmadli section after completing major repairs and reconstruction of the turnaround tracks behind Hazi Aslanov station. Trains are again operating along the full route between Hazi Aslanov and Icherisheher.
The temporary arrangement had been in place since Nov. 30, 2024. During the work, Red and Green line trains terminated at Ahmadli, while a separate shuttle train served the final section to Hazi Aslanov.
Infrastructure Rebuilt
The project was completed under Azerbaijan’s 2025-2030 state program for the development of the Baku Metro. The work included replacement of track and contact-rail infrastructure and upgrades to power, communications, video surveillance, fire-protection and ventilation systems.
Baku Metro has said the rebuilt turnaround facility will allow reserve trains to enter service more quickly and disabled trains to be removed from the line faster. The operator plans to maintain two-minute intervals on the Red Line during peak periods and intervals of no more than two and a half minutes at other times.
The reconstructed facility also provides a technical basis for eventually operating six-car trains on the Red Line. Baku Metro has not announced a date for that change, which would require additional infrastructure work elsewhere on the route.
The Red Line has historically operated between Icherisheher and Hazi Aslanov. Baku Metro’s November 2024 service notice documented the temporary shuttle arrangement introduced for the reconstruction.
