Nearly 78% of Azerbaijan’s Khojavend district remains uncleared of mines, a senior official said on Tuesday.
Emin Huseynov, the Azerbaijani president’s special representative in the Aghdam, Fuzuli and Khojavend districts, said 78.32% of Khojavend had not yet been cleared as of Oct. 27.
The corresponding shares were 37.62% in Aghdam and 18.42% in Fuzuli, Huseynov said. That means about 21.68% of Khojavend, 62.38% of Aghdam and 81.58% of Fuzuli have been cleared.
Huseynov said the absence of accurate minefield maps was complicating clearance work and affecting infrastructure restoration, the return of residents and the use of land.
